In der Kausalreihe a, b, c… n ist die Ursache c causa proxima (nächste Ursache) bzw. causa immediata (unmittelbare Ursache) der Wirkung b, da zwischen b und c keine weitere Ursache liegt. Von der causa proxima wird die causa remota unterschieden.
